I like sports and I don't care who knows.

I'm basically one of these guyz.

I don't usually post stuff about sports on this blog. Not that I don't love sports (I love sports), but I just think that people that talk about sports a lot are boring and I have nothing to offer about sports on this blog. What am I going to do, write about a cool basketball game I watched on TV? Brag that my team is more talented than your team? BORING.

Anyways, a lot of stuff has been happening with sports teams that I like, so I'm going to write about some of them here. I like sports. I'm not ashamed. My dad taught me to like sports. I am a product of my environment.

I have nothing important to add about any of these topics. DEAL WITH IT.

The Portland Trailblazers clinched a playoff spot today, and I'm really excited about it. I really love this Blazers team, probably more than I've loved any other team in my sports-loving lifetime. I just like this group of guys so much; they're so young (the youngest playing rotation in the league) and hungry. Seriously, the Blazers best players are in their third season (Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge) and there are four rookies on the team seeing major minutes (Greg Oden, Nicolas Batum, Rudy Fernandez and Jerryd Bayless). The team is already so good, and they're only going to get better. Seriously, we could be sitting on a basketball dynasty here, as long as Oden learns how to play and stay healthy.

They're all good guys and model citizens, a far cry from the JailBlazers days of a couple of years ago. The city of Portland is in love with this team. This is probably how it feels to live in a college town with a dominant college basketball program, like in Lexington or Chapel Hill. The Blazers are the only team in town, and Portland is just obsessed with them. We literally cannot wait to see these young players grow and achieve their unlimited potential and be the next dominant dynasty in basketball.

I never had a favorite basketball team before, even though I've been a lifelong basketball fan. Living in Las Vegas, there really weren't any teams close so I became a baskteball atheist; I loved the game but I didn't really care who won. A lot of people in Las Vegas like the Lakers, because L.A. is kinda close by. There were especially a lot of Lakers fans in Las Vegas when the Lakers 3-peated with Shaq and Kobe a couple of years ago. But I've always hated the Lakers, and all these Vegas Lakers fans were front-runners. Funny how there weren't any Clippers fans in Las Vegas... don't they play in the same city? After the Lakers dynasty broke up there arose a lot of Phoenix Suns fans in Las Vegas, because Phoenix is kinda close to Vegas but more importantly because the Suns were a good, exciting team and all these new Suns fans were front-runners as well. Las Vegas really sucks that way.

Anyways, as a basketball atheist, I just floated along, enjoying the game but not really rooting for any team. I guess I rooted for the Utah Jazz when I was little, especially against the Bulls (who I hated). But I quickly snapped out of my Jazz-fandom when I realized I hated Utah and almost everything about Utah. So, upon moving to Portland last year, I finally had a hometown team, and I jumped in headfirst. I'm so excited that the Blazers made the playoffs this year (their first trip in 5 years), and I'm hoping they can do some damage and make it to the Finals. REAL TALK.

IT'S BASEBALL SEASON AGAIN!

I love baseball so much, it's definitely my favorite sport. It's not the most exciting sport... it's really slow and the season takes forever, but I LOVE IT. Baseball is definitely the thinking-man's game; the whole thing is basically thinking about scenarios and situations and what-ifs. There is very little action in baseball, really, but the strategy behind the game is so intoxicating. I don't play chess, but it's probably the sports-equivalent to chess. And the Wu-Tang Clan is down with chess, ya dig? And I love how long the season is. Every team plays 162 games, virtually every day for 6 months. The season is a marathon, and by watching your team every day you feel like you get to know them and they become your summer friends. REAL TALK.

I'm a die-hard Los Angeles Dodgers fan, I have been since birth. Seriously, rooting for the Dodgers are my earliest sports memories, and I bleed Dodger blue. I just love the whole Dodgers culture; Dodgers Stadium (my favorite place on earth), now the third-oldest ballpark in the U.S. (behind Wrigley Field and Fenway Park). Vin Scully (the Dodgers' Hall of Fame broadcaster), now in his 59th year of calling Dodger games and just a national treasure. And just the Dodgers storied history... Brooklyn, Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Kurt Gibson, Tommy Lasorda.

I love this year's Dodgers team too. I have much love and admiration for Joe Torre. I'm SO GLAD we signed Manny Ramirez for a couple more (hopefully drama-free) years. I love our young players like James Loney and Matt Kemp, and hope they grow and progress this year. Basically, I'm so glad to have Dodgers baseball back in my life. We are going to the World Series this year. REAL TALK.

As a Chicago Bears fan, I'm really glad we traded for Jay Cutler last week. I'm worried we gave up a lot for him (two #1 picks, a 3rd round pick and the pretty good QB Kyle Orton), but we've needed a franchise QB for awhile now. Seriously, it's been 20 years since Jim McMahon, and we've basically had a revolving door of crappy QB's since then. Cutler is a proven QB with a strong arm, something that we've needed in Chicago for a long time. Seriously, we waited for the horrible Rex Grossman for like 5 years! Now that we have a quality QB, and if our defense holds up, we're a wide receiver away from a serious Super Bowl run. REAL TALK.

I don't know, I just really hated Utah when I lived there for a couple years. That place is just the worst.
