Our very serious Republican party

The Republican party is holding their annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which began today and ends through Saturday. You can read all about it here. It's basically a big conference where all the Republican presidential hopefuls posture and position themselves as potential frontrunners in the 2012 race. Every Republican bigwig is in attendance, from Mitt Romney to Mike Huckabee, everyone except for Sarah Palin (dealing with personal tax issues and budget problems) and Bobby Jindal (who is preparing for tonight's 30 Rock episode).

I don't expect much from these Republicans. I don't think they're relevant or credible in today's political landscape, and I just think they're a sad reminder of 20th Century thought and philosophy. I don't take their thoughts and positions seriously. I don't think their conservative principles can successfully govern a nation as diverse and varied as the U.S. I think their policies and principles are set up to help the privileged few, not the country as a whole. I think they're sad clowns. I'm not even shocked when they make jokes at their conference about blowing up a city of 9.5 million Americans. I just don't really expect much from these people. Just a lot of Reagan-fetishizing and race-baiting.




But I was pretty shocked when I looked at the schedule for their big annual CPAC. First of all, Rush Limbaugh is going to accept a "Defender Of The Constitution" award. The thought of these very serious Republicans giving an award and a standing ovation to that drug addicted, smuggling-100-pills-of-Viagra-into-the-underage-sex-haven-of-the-Dominican-Republic, racist hate-monger is pretty disgusting. But take a look at the rest of their schedule.

Seriously, LOOK AT THAT SCHEDULE! Imagine Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, and whatever other "serious Republican" listening to speeches by freaking "JOE THE PLUMBER"! That neo-nazi Ann Coulter! Rush Limbaugh! Very serious discussions on Al Franken, gun-fear, socialism and the lies of global warming. SERIOUSLY!




And I'm supposed to take these clowns seriously? I'm supposed to listen to their very serious arguments about the stimulus bill and tax cuts? I'm supposed to actually vote for these people?

The Republican party is screwed, ya'll. It has been hijacked by these parnoid, racist, fear-mongering idiots and Reagan fetishists. And I couldn't be happier!
