Weekly Faves

Today is a great day in the entertainment world. There is a TON of good stuff that I've been really excited about that has come out today, check it out!

-
The Streets Everything Is Borrowed

Finally the 4th Streets album is here on our shores. This is a more introspective and subdued Mike Skinner that we're used to, but I think it's perfect for these turbulent times.

Bob Dylan Tell Tale Signs: The Bootleg Series Vol.8

The latest volume in Dylan's bootleg series finally captures his later recordings, specifically from 89-06. This is a less well known period in Dylan's career, and he sounds like a different singer throughout much of these recordings. But, for everybody that knows and loves Time out of Mind, Love and Theft and Modern Times , these are some of the greatest years in Dylan's catalogue. Seriously, these last 10 resurgent years rank right up there with his earlier, incendiary work. I'm so glad we finally have a document of these golden years.

Deerhoof Offend Maggie

Wow, I saw Deerhoof last night and they were AMAZING! They are such a great live band, and those moments that they lock into those heavy, blues-based grooves had me thinking they were the next Zeppelin or Television. Except they have the most ADORABLE little singer... seriously, she is like a real life Hello Kitty doll. I even got to speak with her at their merch table before the show, she was so cute. Anyways, Offend Maggie is their latest, most accesible album. They remind me a lot of late Sleater-Kinney, where they just throw away the pretense of earlier material and start to rock & roll.

-
Vivian Girls Vivian Girls

Vivian Girls are my new favorite group. They just remind me a lot of the lo-fi, shambling, simplistic bedroom-pop of 80's K Records groups. Or a infinitely more polished version of The Shaggs. They're new album is great. Check them out.

-
El Guincho Alegranza

This record is really amazing. It reminds me a lot of Panda Bear's last record. If you're a fan of Perfect Pitch, pick up Alegranza.

-
Marnie Stern This Is It & I Am It & You Are It & So Is That & He Is It & She Is It & It Is It & That Is That

Marnie Stern is like the most rocking girl of all time. She's slays the guitar and writes really awesome rock songs. She's as cute as a button, too.

-
Department of Eagles In Ear Park

I haven't listened to this yet, but I'm hearing great comparisons like Sgt. Pepper, Sung Tongs and Van Dyke Parks. All of this from a member of Grizzly Bear has me immensely excited.

-
Antony & the Johnsons Another World EP

A beautiful teaser EP from Antony Hegarty. Excpect a new full-length album later this year.
