Coachella 2009 lineup!

The lineup for Coachella 2009 is finally here, and it's pretty great. I mean, My Bloody Valentine! Morrissey! McCartney! The Cure! TV on the Radio! Yeah Yeah Yeahs! I'm pretty excited about it.

There are also a bunch of great "little" bands that are playing the festival this year, and this "fleshing out" of the lineup is what makes Coachella unlike any festival I've ever been to. Girl Talk, Vivian Girls, Hercules and Love Affair, Crystal Castles, Antony and the Johnsons, No Age, Lykke Li, A Place To Bury Strangers, Liars, Junior Boys, and even the dude behind the iconic Obama poster will all be great, and make the Coachella Festival an incredible experience.

My only beef with this year is pretty much the whole Saturday lineup. Saturday seriously sucks! I only like 3 of those bands and I've already seen TV on the Radio and Liars. I'm so sick of these bearded, folksy, quiet, "BEAUTIFUL", earnest, flanneled, indie-hippy bands that everybody loved last year. Give me a break. If I wanted to listen to Pet Sounds (which I love) I will. These bands are like the Amy Whinehouse/Duffy of indie rock; "NEW" rehashed bands that sound just like the old bands and are supposed to make us feel nostalgic/romantic about our collective indieness and/or beards. Can these bands go away and we can all focus on another garage rock revival or something? What's next on the "indie-revival" list? Let's skip ahead a few, shall we?

It's a testament to the great lineups on Friday and Sunday that I even want to go this year. I might just sell my Saturday ticket and kick it in Palm Springs all day. I really want to go this year, it'd be my FIFTH Coachella, but I'm pretty broke and I live a lot farther from Indio than I used to. I don't know, I'm hoping that a lot of these bands play up here in Portland or play the Sasquatch Festival (which I'm planning to attend) or I can save up a bunch of money and make it down to Coachella. They do have a new fancy payment plan option availiable. If anybody wants to go, holla at your boy!

I've seen 16 of these bands before: Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Conor Oberst, Girl Talk, Silversun Pickups, M. Ward, TV on the Radio, Liars, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lupe Fiasco, Peter Bjorn and John, Public Enemy, Jenny Lewis, Perry Farrel, and No Age.
